Formula 1 history

Formula 1 for real

Formula 1, or just F1 as it is colloquially known, is car racing on paved roads, with cars built specifically for racing – they are therefore single-seater because no kart driver is required and because, of course, it is faster without a passenger seat and an accompanying seat. Each race is known as a “Grand Prix” and the entire world championship is officially recognised by the FIA Formula One World Championship Chip.

The sport

The sport comes from what was appropriately called grand prix racing, which was popular before the outbreak of World War Two. It was only a few years after the end of World War II that it came to be known as Formula One.
