New Netflix movie The Texas Chainsaw Massacre

Waiting for the new ‘Texas Chainsaw Massacre’

Netflix has revealed the trailer for the new film of the legendary film franchise. Its title, The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, is exactly the same as the title of the very first film in the series, meaning there are no numbers or additions. This suggests that the filmmakers probably decided to ignore previous searches and focus on the iconic source material.

Apparently, they are not afraid to face another box office failure. All recent productions of the film franchise have resulted in million-dollar losses for the moguls, and the film, released in 2017, suffered an epic failure, managing to gross less than a million and a half dollars. Admittedly, the size of the budget was not made public, but before that the two films cost the makers sixteen and twenty million.

You may have your own attitude to horror films and one of the subgenres of the genre, the slasher. But there’s no point in arguing that ‘Slaughterhouse’ ’74 managed to open a new page in cinema. The crew, led by thirty-year-old director Toob Hooper, succeeded in a cinematic feat. Creators in record time (worked, according to the participants themselves, sixteen hours a day, seven days a week) have taken a paltry $ 83500 feature film, which resulted in gathering $ 31 million at the box office, not to mention the sales of a huge number of videotapes, which were issued as a legal and pirates.

Speaking of the creative aspect of The Texas Massacre, it was the first picture that was really scary, you might say nauseating. In classic horror films, apart from a few exceptions, it’s as if the writers make an agreement with the viewer. Prepare to see a non-existent reality that gives you a little bit of a scare, they say. The ’74 film, on the other hand, was not an artificial reality at all. The crossroads in which teenagers find themselves on a farm inhabited by a family of cannibals, seemed to the viewer almost like another episode of some reality show.

The film was a box-office success, winning international prizes and enjoying a wide array of international festivals. It was a direct descendant of a franchise. But what often happens in situations where the creative passion is replaced by pure commercialism happened. As a result, the atmosphere of the first film was completely lost. In any case, eight pictures of the franchise, shot for a total of fifty million, grossed almost two hundred million. Based on it was established production of comic books, computer games and even toys.

Production of the new tape is not all right with the first stages. Initially, the process of filming stopped pandemic coronavirus, and after its resumption of directors Tohill brothers were replaced by the bosses of the studio Legendary, who did not like the footage. They were replaced by David Garcia, who decided to make the film anew. With Netflix organising international distribution of Carnage, the film is opening up worldwide.

Those who have seen the trailer agree that the product should turn out to be decent. By the way, the video is very long. Apparently, the authors wanted to demonstrate that all the techniques of horror movies are available to the new director. And in 150 seconds he actually showed their complete purse strings.

If the picture is not inferior to the trailer (which unfortunately does not happen in all cases), then it is really close to the original. Naturally, you can’t do better than the ’74 film under any circumstances. After all, no matter how perfect the copy is, it’s still a copy.
