Will there be a fifth season of the famous television series Sherlock?

For 135 years, the Sherlock Holmes stories have fascinated an army of millions of fans around the world. There’s hardly a person in the world who hasn’t heard of the great London detective. Hartswood Films’ series Sherlock, commissioned by the BBC, played a big part in popularising the famous detective. The classic has been modernised, and viewers have come to love it so much that every new season has caused a stir that can only be compared with the Olympics.

The project was launched in 2009, and the following year audiences were able to watch three one and a half hour episodes. The pilot episode never made it to the screens: it was a draft based on Etude in Crimson. In the beginning a new series appeared every two years, but soon the schedule was lost, and the fifth season will not wait until today, although the world premiere was scheduled for January 1st 2022. Apparently, something went wrong because of the total overload of the cast.

Plot twists and turns

Each season of “Sherlock” consists of only three episodes, but there is enough events in the series. There was only twenty minutes of screen time enough to adapt Doyle’s first story. Here we watch Holmes and Watson meet. The sleuth was looking for a companion to rent a flat, and he meets a true friend and faithful assistant.

Together they are in for an incredible adventure. The heroes face a mysterious murder of a young woman, an explosion in a house nearby, a robbery of bankers. And Holmes and Watson proved that two private citizens can beat all the London police, which, as we remember from the stories and the magnificent Soviet adaptation, does not shine brightly.

In the second season Holmes finds some very worthy adversaries in the way. We are talking about the beautiful Irene Adler and the almighty Professor Moriarty. The protagonist will have to apply all his skills to deal with these two. If Sherlock’s mighty intellect and deductive powers no longer help him, help comes from his brother Mycroft. He is not inferior to Holmes Jr. in intelligence and shrewdness, in addition, he works for the Queen of Great Britain herself.

The third season also surprised fans with various surprises, most notably the marriage of Dr. Watson. Sherlock, on the other hand, was confronted in one of the episodes by the brilliant blackmailer Magnussen. The fourth season is most remembered for the appearance of Ever, the Holmes brothers’ sister. The meeting with her was very costly for the main character.

About the fifth season

The authors of the TV series constantly scare the fans, telling about the difficulties of the appearance of the fifth season. The actors are busy with other projects, the authors are afraid that this project has already exhausted itself, but most importantly, between Cumberbatch (Holmes) and Martin Freeman (Watson) in reality there is not the warmest relationship. All these reasons put off the start of the filming process indefinitely. And we should not forget that the last episode of the fourth season is based on The Last Case. That was the title of Doyle’s story. Is this really a fat hint at the end of the series?

Nevertheless, the makers of Sherlock have not yet buried the sequel. What is certain is that Cumberbatch has a signed contract agreeing to take part in Season 5. The project has yet to screen several significant stories by the English writer, and a number of storylines simply can’t go without a sequel.

No one is officially confirming anything, but the writers have repeatedly stated that the beautiful and deadly Irene is to be expected in the sequel. If she and Sherlock make love, fans will die of excitement.
