Manchester United prodigy Mason Greenwood’s career shattered by beating scandal

In January 2022, the biography of Mason Greenwood, Manchester United’s young talent, was split in two. In the first half, everyone admired his talent and progress. Now the media are talking about beating his ex-girlfriend, accusing him of rape and the police arresting him.

On January 30, Greater Manchester County law enforcement authorities launched an official investigation into Greenwood’s situation. The Mirror newspaper contacted the police and representatives said the following: “We are aware of the images and videos circulating on social media. We are continuing to investigate the case to establish the full circumstances.”

Greenwood was arrested the same evening by police, who decided to question him. He was left at the station overnight as interrogation procedures were still pending. The Daily Mail, citing its law enforcement source, said that the footballer would remain in police custody until at least the third of February. However, he was released on bail as early as the second day.

Investigators also have questions for Greenwood’s neighbours. However, Mason has only lived in the house for a few weeks, and the new neighbours know very little about the tenant. The former neighbours, on the other hand, have repeatedly expressed their displeasure at the noisy parties thrown by the midfielder. And at the time, serious coronavirus restrictions were in effect.

How Greenwood will be punished

Nothing is clear at the moment – the police have not even made the public aware of the first protocols yet. The situation could result in either a fine or imprisonment.

How did the club react to the incident

Elementary: it has completely distanced itself from the player. MJ got rid of all merchandise with Greenwood by stopping selling them. In addition, the team have assured that Mason will not be allowed to train or play matches until the investigation is over.

When it comes to Manchester United players, they are cancelling their subscriptions to his social media page. Before the scandal, his Instagram followers included nineteen teammates. At least nine of them have already unsubscribed. Incidentally, Cristiano Ronaldo has not been subscribed before.

How are the sponsors reacting?

The situation here is extremely serious. Nike Corporation has already decided to suspend cooperation. British confectionery manufacturer Caldbury has also distanced itself from Mason. Here is their statement:

“Our partnership is about the club as a whole and not about the individual player. For the duration of the investigation this player will not be involved in any product we create with MJ. We continue to monitor the situation closely”.

The player has now even been excluded from one of the computer games. This is what EA have done by removing Greenwood from FIFA22. However, the player still remains in Ultimate Team and FUT22.

What about the girl beaten by Greenwood

Harriet Robson has not yet commented publicly on anything. The photomodel promptly wiped pics of the beating and then her Instagram account disappeared as well. Her father commented on her behalf, saying the account had been hacked. He said the following:

“No father would want to hear that such a thing happened to his daughter. The police came to see Harriet and took a statement from her. The daughter told us that someone had hacked into her phone and social media account. We asked her to keep the photos and videos, but the intruders beat her to it. We’ve known Mason for years and have welcomed him into the family as our own. Lately things have gone bad between them. Harriet is really worried right now. They dated for a while, they had real feelings.
